Minister Stefanović handed over copies of archival material from the Military Archive to the Ambassador of Israel to Serbia
The Minister of Defense, Dr. Nebojša Stefanović, met today with the Ambassador of the State of Israel to Serbia, H. E. Yahel Vilan, to whom he handed a hard disk with digital copies of archival material related to the persecution and suffering of Jews by the NDH during the Second World War.
Minister Stefanović pointed out that the cooperation between the Military Archives and the Holocaust Memorial Center "Yad Vashem" is very important and contributes to strengthening overall relations between the two countries, based on the historical closeness of the Serbian and Jewish people who shared the fate of terrible suffering during the Second World War.
According to Minister Stefanović, the disk with more than 162,000 pages of digitized copies of archival material allocated by the Military Archive in accordance with the Agreement between the Yad Vashem Memorial Center and the Ministry of Defense - Military Archive, serves to document and preserve the memory of victims of fascism, so that new generations would not forget what happened, but also as to prevent shameful attempts to relativize the crimes committed during the Second World War.
Ambassador Vilan thanked Minister Stefanović and pointed out that the cooperation between the Military Archives and the Yad Vashem Memorial Center is extremely important for Israel. He stated that it is important to preserve historical facts from oblivion and not to allow their revision, so that crimes would not be repeated.
The meeting was attended, among others, by the Rector of the University of Defense, Lieutenant General Associate Prof. Goran Radovanović PhD, Director of the Institute for Strategic Research Associate Prof. Jovanka Šaranović PhD and the director of the Military Archives, Lieutenant Colonel Petar Ivanović.
